My top pick – Nyquist. He’s gusty, quick when he needs to be, has a great rider in Mario Gutierrez, and he’s been my top pick from moment one. I love his style and his determination in every win. Even when everyone was all gung-ho over Mohaymen, my eye was still on Nyquist.

Going with famed writer, Steve Haskins on this one – Exaggerator. He’s fast he’s cute, and he really blossomed in his win in the Santa Anita Derby. The Desormeaux brothers seem to have a good one on their hands and excited to see him compete with the likes of Nyquist and Danzing Candy. Plus love the ear rubbing he gets when being saddled. His expression is priceless.
Perhaps going out on a limb here with my third choice, Danzing Candy. I loved his powerhouse win in the San Felipe, and though Exaggerator beat the heck out of him in the SA Derby, Danzing Candy has speed. However that might be the problem if he can’t hold back and gets on the lead too quick, which is what happened in the Santa Anita. He might wear out if so but I still like him and I think there’s potential there if he sets himself up right.
There are other great horses in Mor Spirit, Brody’s Cause, Suddenbreakingnews, to name just a few, but honestly I don’t think there’s a horse out there to beat Nyquist. Fourteen more days!
